Questa magnifica incisione è la prima della celebre serie incisa da Marco Pitteri nota come “la Caccia in valle” dai dipinti di Pietro Longhi, conservati a Venezia alla Fondazione Querini Stampalia. Questa serie pittorica è uno dei cicli più celebri di Pietro Longhi, realizzato tra il 1765 e il 1770 per la famiglia Barbarigo. Raffigura, in sette episodi consecutivi, una battuta di caccia agli uccelli nelle valli lagunari veneziane, descrivendone con precisione quasi teatrale tutte le fasi preparatorie e conclusive. La discrepanza cronologica, che sembra anticipare la produzione incisoria del Pitteri rispetto alla esecuzione pittorica del Longhi, viene generalmente spiegato con la tesi che l’incisione venne basata non sui dipinti ma sui disegni preparatori del Longhi, con cui Pitteri si era molto legato professionalmente, dopo la morte di Piazzetta. This magnificent engraving is the first in the famous series engraved by Marco Pitteri, known as ’The Hunt in the Valley”, based on the paintings by Pietro Longhi, held in Venice at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia. This series of paintings is one of Pietro Longhi’s most celebrated cycles, produced between 1765 and 1770 for the Barbarigo family.
