In-8 (21 cm) (1) c. (antiporta) (74) 512 (126).
In-8 (21 cm) (1) c. (frontispiece) (74) 512 (126). Beautiful contemporary full leather binding, with fillets on the covers and title and phytomorphic decorations in gold on the spine, sprayed edges. Greek and Roman anecdotes on military politics and the science of war: also called Strategecon, or Characteristics of illustrious generals. Sextus Julius Frontinus (c. 40 – 103/104) was a Roman politician, official and writer. The Strategemata are commentaries on his lost work, the De re militari, and consist of four books of military stratagems: the first book deals with the preparation for combat and the various operations; the second book deals with the actual combat; the third book deals with the siege of cities; the fourth book sets out the sayings and deeds of famous generals. Due to the differences in style and content, and the frequent repetitions of things already written in the previous books, it is suspected that this fourth book is not the work of Frontinus.
