Il Cortegiano o, più propriamente, Il libro del Cortegiano, è un trattato scritto da Baldassarre Castiglione tra il 1513 e il 1524, sottoposto a correzioni e pubblicato definitivamente nel 1528, poco prima della sua morte. Basandosi dall’esperienza come cortigiano della duchessa vergine Elisabetta Gonzaga alla corte di Urbino, l’opera è strutturata come un dialogo e tratta le regole, usi e costumi del perfetto cortigiano.

The Courtier or, more properly, The Book of the Courtier, is a treatise written by Baldassarre Castiglione between 1513 and 1524, subjected to corrections and finally published in 1528, shortly before his death. Based on his experience as a courtier of the virgin duchess Elisabetta Gonzaga at the court of Urbino, the work is structured as a dialogue and deals with the rules, habits and customs of the perfect courtier.
