Il primo approccio di Okey con la lingua italiana avvenne durante la sua partecipazione alle Extension Lectures alla Toynbee Hall negli anni ’80 dell’Ottocento.Nel 1919, divenne il primo professore di italiano “Serena” all’Università di Cambridge.
